Yellow warning issued in northern and western Latvia due to heavy rain
On Friday, September 4, a yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms is in effect in Kurzeme and most of Vidzeme in Latvia. This was reported by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, according to LSM English.
Heavy rain and gusty winds
Brief precipitation is expected across the country. At the same time, heavy rainfall, which may be prolonged, is forecast in many areas of Kurzeme and in some parts of Vidzeme. Thunderstorms are also possible.
Southwesterly winds will prevail, with gusts of 12–17 metres per second. In the second half of the day, they will shift to westerly and northwesterly in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, weakening in the evening. The maximum air temperature will range from +16 to +19 degrees Celsius.

Forecast for Riga and flood risk
Intermittent rain is expected in Riga, and thunderstorms are possible. Gusty southwesterly winds with gusts of 12–15 metres per second are forecast, weakening in the evening. The maximum temperature in Latvia's capital will reach +17…+18 degrees Celsius.
Heavy rainfall may cause local flooding and the formation of large puddles on streets and roads. Water levels in rivers will continue to rise. A yellow warning for high river water levels is also in effect in Kurzeme: flooding of floodplains is possible in certain sections. Rising water levels are also forecast throughout the weekend.
