Hungary is expelling ten Russian diplomats from the country, according to the Foreign Ministry
Hungarian authorities have decided to expel 10 members of the Russian diplomatic mission from the country due to activities that Budapest considers unacceptable for diplomats under the Vienna Convention.
According to the Hungarian foreign minister, a representative of the ministry informed the Russian ambassador to Hungary of Budapest’s decision.
“At my instruction, on Tuesday, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Russian ambassador to Hungary that, in the assessment of the Hungarian authorities, 10 members of the Russian diplomatic mission were engaged in activities in Hungary that are unacceptable for diplomats under the Vienna Convention,” the statement reads.
In light of this, Hungary has called on the Russian diplomats in question to leave the country.
The Hungarian government emphasized that the decision to expel the diplomats was primarily related to issues of national security and the protection of the country’s sovereignty.
“This decision is aimed at protecting Hungary’s security and sovereignty. It does not mean a severance of diplomatic relations with Russia,” Anita Orbán stated.
According to her, Hungary intends to continue maintaining the necessary diplomatic dialogue with Russia, but only on the condition of mutual respect and adherence to international rules.
“Hungary intends to continue the necessary dialogue based on mutual respect and adherence to established rules,” Orban added.
Thus, Budapest expelled 10 members of the Russian diplomatic mission, while emphasizing that this decision does not mean a severance of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Russia.

Earlier, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to expel two military attachés from the Russian Embassy in Rome. According to Italian officials, the diplomats are believed to be involved in espionage activities on behalf of Moscow.
Romania decided to recall its ambassador to Russia for consultations and announced the expulsion of a Russian diplomat. Bucharest made this decision following a series of incidents in which Russian “Shahed” attack drones entered the country’s airspace.
The German Foreign Ministry has decided to expel the deputy military attaché of the Russian Embassy in Berlin on suspicion of espionage.
