Moldova has restricted water use due to a severe drought
On August 4, Moldova imposed restrictions on water use due to drought and falling water levels in the region. The National Commission for Crisis Management has banned the use of water for non-essential purposes, including recreational activities.
Specifically, “the use of drinking water and water from surface sources for non-essential purposes, such as washing streets or filling swimming pools,” will be restricted. Water will be used primarily to meet the basic needs of the population—for hospitals, schools, and other vital services. In addition, the commission decided to reduce water consumption by at least 20% for industrial enterprises whose operations are not critical to food production, the medical sector, or public health.
