Moldova has responded to the overflight of a "Shahed" drone in its airspace

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement strongly condemning the overflight of an unmanned aerial vehicle over the country’s territory.

The diplomatic agency views this incident as a direct violation of state sovereignty and a threat to the civilian population.

Chisinau emphasized that such instances of using the airspace of a neutral state for military purposes are unacceptable.

“This incident constitutes a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and is unacceptable,” the foreign ministry’s statement reads.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs places particular emphasis on the security risks posed by unmanned drones that regularly fly deep into Moldovan territory during attacks on Ukraine.

The country’s authorities emphasize that such actions undermine regional stability and require a firm response from the international community.

Moldovan diplomats called for strict adherence to international law, which guarantees the inviolability of sovereign states’ borders.

“The Ministry emphasizes that such actions pose a threat to the safety of citizens and regional stability,” the document states, released after the violation was recorded.

The situation involving drone and missile flights over Moldova has become a systematic problem since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Chisinau has repeatedly detected drone debris in border areas, prompting the government to strengthen airspace control measures.

As a reminder, a “Shahed” drone entered Moldovan airspace overnight.

Moldova will demand compensation from Russia for damages caused by the attacks.

Moldova’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days. The final decision will be made by parliament at an extraordinary session today at 5:00 p.m.

Earlier reports indicated that Moldova may declare a state of emergency in the energy sector on March 24 for a period of 60 days amid massive Russian strikes on Ukraine’s power grid.

As a reminder, Moldova is implementing a state of heightened readiness in the energy sector due to the situation in the Middle East.

Also, following the Russian attack, technical oil in the Dniester River has reached Moldova.
