During the war, Moldova has recorded 54 incursions by Russian missiles and drones

During the war, Moldova has recorded 54 incursions by Russian missiles and drones

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 54 incidents involving the flight or crash of Russian missiles and drones have been documented on Moldovan territory. The country’s Ministry of Defense is analyzing each case to assess threats to national security, noting that the violations span the entire geography of the state—from the northern regions to Transnistria and the south.

This was reported by NewsMaker, citing official data from the ministry.

According to updated information, incidents were recorded in the following localities:

  • North: Ocnita, Briceni, Soroca, Edineț, Rîșcani;

  • Center: Orhei, Criuleni, Telenesti, Stavceni, Drochia;

  • South: Tudora, Palanka, Crokmaz, Causani, Taraclia, Etulia, Chadir-Lunga;

  • Transnistria: Tiraspol, Bendery, Kovbasna, Kamianka.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Russian diplomats have been summoned repeatedly due to these violations. In particular, former Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov received notes of protest three times, and current Ambassador Oleg Ozerov has already received them four times. Of particular concern is the fact that in nine cases, the drones or their debris contained explosive material, posing a direct threat to the lives of Moldovan citizens.

The government emphasizes the importance of strengthening air defense capabilities and modernizing the air force to combat such threats, including the Iranian “Shaheds” used by Russia. Continuous monitoring of airspace is carried out in close coordination with international partners. Despite its neutral status, Chisinau is increasingly asserting the need to defend its sovereignty against Moscow’s hybrid and military provocations. As of April 9, 2026, Moldova continues to document every incident for future use in international diplomatic and legal proceedings.

Experts note that the use of Moldova’s airspace by Russian missiles is often intended to bypass Ukrainian air defense systems in the western and southern directions. The situation in border areas remains tense, and civilians are urged to remain vigilant when encountering unknown objects. Moldovan officials confirm their readiness to continue informing the international community about every act of aggression affecting the republic’s territory.

Thanks to foreign partners, Moldova has strengthened its air defense in the eastern sector, where Russian missiles and drones periodically fly in.

The Moldovan Ministry of Defense reported that on February 3, an unidentified drone violated the country’s airspace. It entered from Ukrainian territory.

As a reminder, Romanian radar systems recently detected a small flying object, presumably a drone, that violated national airspace, penetrating up to 6 km into the country.
