The pug Ginny Lou won the world's ugliest dog contest
Ginny Lou, a rescued pug, won the 50th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest, held in Santa Rosa, California. She took first place at the Sonoma County Fair and won a $5,000 prize for her owner, Michelle Grady, according to Euronews.
Ginny Lou was rescued in the mountains of South Korea, after which she was taken in and brought to California. Second place went to Pinky, an albino mix of a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua. Third place went to Otto, a mixed-breed Chihuahua, who received a $2,000 prize.

The contest aims to draw attention to the benefits of adopting dogs from shelters. Among this year’s participants was Clara, a 12-year-old Chinese Crested Dog, who traveled from Poland with her owner, Marcelina Kasprusz.
Kasprusz noted that the cash prize was not her main reason for participating. According to her, if the contest inspires even one person to adopt a dog from a shelter, that alone will be a victory.
