Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport has acquired a 25.01% stake in Domodedovo Airport. It received the stake in exchange for a cash contribution of 16.5 billion rubles to the company that owns the airport’s property.
Last year, Domodedovo was nationalized by court order and subsequently sold at auction to Sheremetyevo Airport for 66 billion rubles.
Sheremetyevo officials noted that Domodedovo has a significant debt burden, chronic financial problems, and operating losses. According to the airport’s CEO, the actual cost of acquiring Domodedovo, taking debt into account, was 141 billion rubles, of which 75 billion rubles were debt obligations.
The parties to the deal stated that the partnership should help stabilize Domodedovo’s operations and improve the quality of services.
