A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crashed in Alaska

A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk multi-purpose helicopter crashed in a mountainous area in Alaska. Four crew members were injured in the incident and were hospitalized.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the first report of the crash came in after a crew member’s personal emergency beacon was activated at approximately 10:07 a.m.

Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene around 11:00 a.m. and evacuated the injured to a medical facility.

“We are extremely relieved that the crew members survived and sustained only minor injuries,” said Rear Admiral Bob Little, commander of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Arctic District.

The MH-60 Jayhawk is a multi-purpose maritime helicopter in service with the U.S. Coast Guard. It is used for:

  • search and rescue operations;
  • medical evacuation;
  • patrolling maritime areas;
  • carrying out missions in challenging weather and sea conditions.

The U.S. Coast Guard is currently conducting an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the crash. No further details regarding the aircraft’s technical condition or possible factors contributing to the crash have been released yet.

Despite the severity of the incident, all crew members survived, and their condition is not life-threatening.

Earlier, a Mi-17 military transport helicopter belonging to Pakistan’s Army Aviation crashed in Pakistan. According to preliminary reports, everyone on board was killed in the crash.

In the United Kingdom, three Royal Navy servicemembers were killed in a helicopter crash. Their helicopter crashed into a field in Devon, according to local media reports.
