In Cyprus, Edon criticizes appointment of Elam member to Onek board
In Cyprus, the cabinet of ministers has for the first time appointed Elam member Zafiro Kastanou to the board of directors of the youth organization Onek. This was reported by Cyprus Mail.
Appointment to the Onek board
The appointment of an Elam representative to Onek’s board of directors was the first such case. Kastanou previously ran for parliament with Elam in Famagusta.
The cabinet of ministers’ decision was criticized on Thursday by Edon, the youth wing of Akel. The organization said that the appointment contradicts Onek’s values.

Edon’s position
According to Edon, Onek should promote democracy, tolerance, respect for diversity, and peaceful coexistence. The organization also stressed the need to preserve and strengthen Onek’s bicommunal character.
Edon linked this to the country’s current division and the mission of the youth organization.
