British base police in Cyprus seek witnesses to fatal road crash
British base police in Cyprus have appealed for help from witnesses to a fatal road accident on the Limassol—Paphos motorway near the Episkopi tunnel. Seventy-six-year-old Demetris Potamitis died in the crash last Wednesday, Cyprus Mail reports.
Refrigerator fell onto the road
Potamitis was travelling in a double-cab vehicle with his grandson when a refrigerator fell from the vehicle onto the road. This happened about a kilometre after the Episkopi tunnel on the carriageway towards Paphos.
The man returned to the road to retrieve the refrigerator and was struck by a minibus carrying passengers that was heading to Paphos airport. Potamitis was pronounced dead at the scene. His grandson was unharmed.

Police seek dashcam footage
The minibus driver was detained and tested for alcohol and drugs. The tests found no substances. A statement was taken from the driver, who was released pending further investigation.
British base police are asking anyone who saw the collision or has information that could help establish its circumstances to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in footage from vehicle dashcams. Information can be provided by calling 1443 or 25 967227.
