Secondary school students in Cyprus to return to classes on Monday
In Cyprus, the school year for students of gymnasiums, lyceums and technical schools will begin on Monday. Education Minister Athena Michaelidou said the government intends to continue educational reforms, introduce innovations and address long-standing problems in the education system, Cyprus Mail reports.
Number of students and teachers
A total of 41,280 students will return to classes at secondary education institutions. In the 2026–2027 school year, around 7,200 teachers will work in 62 gymnasiums, 36 lyceums, ten mixed secondary schools and five evening schools.
Another 890 educators will work in the secondary technical education and vocational training system.

Primary schools and kindergartens
Primary school teachers will also return to work on Monday, while students will begin classes a week later. This school year, 52,186 children will attend primary schools, including 9,000 first-grade students.
In addition, approximately 14,400 children will attend kindergartens. Michaelidou noted that the ministry aims to create modern, high-quality and inclusive schools. According to her, new subjects have been introduced in educational institutions, infrastructure has been upgraded, and technological development is being used for learning.
