The Serbian government has proposed that Vučić call for early parliamentary elections
Serbian Prime Minister Džuro Matsut has officially appealed to the country’s president, Aleksandar Vučić, requesting that he dissolve the National Assembly and call for early parliamentary elections. The government’s request stipulates that the head of state must schedule the elections so that they are held no later than 60 days after the announcement.
The head of government explained his move by citing public demand for early elections, emphasizing that the government should not ignore such demands.
“A responsible government never ignores such demands. If we want to reduce tensions in society, break the cycle of exhausting disputes, and dispel any doubts about the will of the people, there is no more democratic and effective way than to once again turn to the citizens of Serbia,” noted Džuro Matsut. The Serbian government’s initiative came as no surprise, as President Aleksandar Vučić had announced plans to hold early parliamentary elections back in June.
