In Poland, the opposition wants to hold Tusk accountable over information regarding a cryptocurrency exchange
Lawmakers from the Polish opposition party “Law and Justice” have stated that they will file a complaint with the prosecutor’s office regarding Prime Minister Donald Tusk. They believe the head of government may have committed a crime by disclosing information in the Sejm related to the investigation into fraud surrounding the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange.
Opposition members claim that Tusk disclosed details related to the investigation.
On Monday, during a press conference, Law and Justice MP Michał Wos announced that a complaint had been filed with the prosecutor’s office alleging that Donald Tusk had committed a crime. According to him, the complaint alleges a violation of Article 12, paragraphs 1 and 2, of the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office.
On Friday, September 4, Donald Tusk quoted excerpts from a witness’s testimony in the Zondacrypto investigation from the parliamentary rostrum. According to the Polish prime minister, he received permission from the prosecutor general to review the case files.
“The investigation materials are confidential, and the disclosure of confidential information derived from the investigation is a crime under the Criminal Code, which is prosecuted by public indictment,” stated MP Wos.
Poland’s Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, Waldemar Żurek, stated that the prime minister had the right to make this testimony public.
"I have the authority, pursuant to Article 12 of the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office, to make case materials public in the interest of society and citizens (...) if, in my opinion, this will not hinder the conduct of this investigation," said Waldemar Żurek.
Tusk called AdN supporters in Poland “idiots” and “traitors.”
