An explosive device was found at the site where the drone crashed in Lithuania

An explosive device was discovered at the crash site of a drone in Lithuania. Bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene and successfully defused it, according to Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Robertas Kaunas. The drone itself will now be examined in detail by experts to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

At the crash site of the drone in Lithuania, bomb disposal experts discovered an explosive device. Experts immediately took control of the situation and neutralized the dangerous object. This was reported by Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Robertas Kaunas. According to him, work at the site did not end after the explosive was defused. Experts will continue to examine the drone’s wreckage and analyze its design. This should help determine what kind of drone it was, where it might have come from, and under what circumstances it ended up on Lithuanian territory.

Kaunas also spoke about a conversation he had with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto. According to the Lithuanian minister, the two sides discussed the situation and security risks to the region in detail. Crozetto, as Kaunas noted, expressed strong support for the security of the countries in the region. Separately, the Lithuanian minister thanked the fighter jet crew that participated in the response to the incident. He emphasized that military and civilian services acted in unison. It is precisely this kind of cooperation, according to Kaunas, that allows for a rapid response to potentially dangerous situations and helps defend the country’s territory. “Joint actions by NATO members and all services yield the desired results and help ensure our security,” Kaunas wrote.

Experts are now focusing their attention on the drone itself. Its debris must be examined to obtain more information about the type of aircraft, its possible origin, and the nature of its equipment. The discovery of an explosive device makes the technical analysis particularly important, as investigators and military personnel need to determine whether it was part of the drone’s design and what its purpose was.

The incident has also drawn the attention of Lithuanian authorities due to the security situation in the region. Lithuania is a member of NATO, and its airspace is regularly under heightened military scrutiny due to Russia’s war against Ukraine and the risk of accidental or intentional border crossings by drones. Lithuanian authorities will continue to examine the evidence found at the crash site. Once the analysis is complete, more information about the drone and the explosive device will be available. For now, it is known that the dangerous object has been neutralized, and further investigation of the drone is ongoing. This was reported by Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Robertas Kaunas.

Lithuania plans to send a diplomatic note to Belarus following the incident involving a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace on the night of September 15 and was shot down by NATO fighter jets.
