At the UN Security Council, Nebenzia was on his phone while Ukraine was speaking
During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya pointedly checked his phone while Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, was speaking and presenting data on civilian casualties resulting from Russian attacks.
This was reported during the broadcast of the meeting.
The meeting was convened at Ukraine’s request due to Russia’s recent strikes on civilian infrastructure and cities.
As the Ukrainian diplomat spoke about the dead and wounded, including a 12-year-old boy who was killed in Kyiv during shelling, Nebenzia sat with his eyes fixed on his phone.

In his speech, Andriy Melnyk emphasized the scale of Russian crimes against the civilian population and drew attention to the indifference of part of the international community.
“I could continue this long list of Russian crimes, but, unfortunately, for some in this room, these horrific facts are merely routine statistics of military operations and do not elicit the necessary response to put Russia in its place. This indifference must end,” Melnik stated.
This episode marked yet another instance where, during UN Security Council meetings, the Russian delegation’s behavior drew public criticism for ignoring statements from the Ukrainian side.
During a UN Security Council meeting, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Andriy Melnyk sharply criticized Russia, calling on international partners to strengthen sanctions against the Russian energy sector.
Prior to this, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, sharply criticized narratives about the alleged historical unity of Ukrainians and Russians.
