Center-left opposition leads in Swedish elections - Reuters
In Sweden, the vote count in the parliamentary elections is coming to an end, with the center-left opposition maintaining a slight lead over the incumbent right-wing coalition government. The opposition bloc is expected to win 176 seats in the country’s 349-seat parliament, while the right-wing governing bloc is projected to win 173 seats.
As of the afternoon of September 16, only 1.3% of the districts remained to be counted. The Swedish Election Commission is currently processing ballots that arrived late from within the country and from abroad, and notes that the final vote count may continue until Thursday. Nevertheless, the current distribution of seats in parliament matches the preliminary results.
The election results will not change Sweden’s pro-Western and pro-Ukrainian course, but future policies on migration and the fight against organized crime will depend on them. If the right-wing bloc wins, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson plans to include the far-right Sweden Democrats party in the governing coalition for the first time.
