Attack in Turkey: Schoolboy May Have Copied a Killer from the U.S.
Turkish police have released new details regarding the 14-year-old student who carried out an attack on a school on April 15. The incident resulted in fatalities, and investigators are considering the possibility that the perpetrator may have been inspired by a similar incident in the United States.
This is stated in an official statement.
The incident took place in the Turkish district of Kahramanmaraş, where at least nine people were killed in the shooting, including eight of the student’s classmates.
According to law enforcement officials, preliminary checks revealed that the suspect used an image on his WhatsApp profile associated with Elliot Rodger, who is known for committing murders in the U.S. in 2014.
The suspect’s father, U. M., was detained on April 15 and subsequently taken into custody by judicial authorities. Digital materials obtained during searches of the suspect’s residence and his father’s vehicle were seized and are currently being examined.
According to preliminary findings by law enforcement, no evidence of a link to terrorism has been found, and this incident is being assessed as an isolated attack.
On May 23, 2014, Elliot Rodger carried out an attack in Isla Vista near the University of California, Santa Barbara, killing six people and injuring 14 others. Prior to this, he posted a video on YouTube and distributed a manifesto explaining the motives behind his actions.
First, the attacker stabbed two roommates and their friend to death. He then opened fire near the student dormitories and at a nearby store. After that, he drove erratically through the area, shooting and running over pedestrians with his car, and engaged in a shootout with the police.
Eventually, he crashed into a parked car and then took his own life.
