Starmer's successor plans to open a prime minister's office in Manchester

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, who is considered one of the leading contenders for the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom following the possible resignation of Keir Starmer, has announced his intention to partially relocate the government office to Manchester.

According to Burnham, if he is appointed head of government, some staff members of the Prime Minister’s Office will work not only in London but also in Manchester. In his view, this step will contribute to the country’s more balanced development and strengthen the role of the regions.

In presenting his vision for reforming the system of governance, Burnham noted that this office should become a hub for the redistribution of powers and resources among the regions.

Burnham announced that the new office, which he called No. 10 North, will become the “nerve center of a renewed Britain,” through which the government plans to coordinate efforts at the national and local levels.

Among the office’s key tasks are developing a long-term economic strategy and supporting regions in setting new economic growth targets.

According to the politician, the new structure will have three main priorities: reforming critical public services, reindustrialization, and the revitalization of cities and communities. He cited achieving equal living standards across all parts of the country as a separate goal.
