A distillery in Tambov that had been seized from its owners was sold to one of Putin's friends
The state-owned company "Rosspirtprom" acquired a 72.87% stake in the nationalized Tambov distillery "Amber Talvis" for 1.94 billion rubles. The company was sold at the lowest possible price, which is nearly half the initial valuation of 3.89 billion rubles set by the Russian Property Fund.
According to the publication, “Rosspirtprom” was the sole bidder, so upon completion of the deal, its stake in the company will increase to approximately 98.4%. The company is Russia’s largest producer of ethyl alcohol and owns several large distilleries.
The Insider previously reported that billionaire Arkady Rotenberg is considered the ultimate beneficiary of “Rosspirtprom”; he is described as a longtime friend and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Prior to its nationalization, Amber Talvis belonged to businessman Yuri Shefler, whose assets were seized by Russian authorities following accusations that he had financed the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
