Naouseda will make a decision on the new Cabinet in the coming days

In Lithuania, the new government lineup may be officially approved in the coming days. President Gitanas Nausėda has already received the nomination for the new Cabinet of Ministers and is expected to make a final decision after reviewing it.

Mindaugas Sinkevičius will head the new government. Some ministers will retain their posts, although the coalition is already operating in a revamped format.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda is expected to make a decision on the new government lineup in the near future. Following the reshuffling of the ruling coalition, the country has a new candidate for the post of prime minister—Mindaugas Sinkevičius. This was announced by presidential adviser Fredrik Janson in a comment to LRT.

According to him, all necessary documents have already been submitted to the head of state. “The nomination will be reviewed in the coming days, and the president will make a final decision,” Janson said.

The documents have already been submitted to the president

Along with the list of candidates for the new Cabinet of Ministers, the president also received the government’s future work program. After reviewing the documents, the president must approve the composition of the government. After that, the Lithuanian Seimas must also give its approval. Only after these procedures are completed will the new Cabinet be able to officially begin its work.

Some ministers will remain in their posts

Despite the changes in the government, there will not be a complete overhaul of the team. Mindaugas Sinkevičius has proposed retaining a number of ministers who served in the government of former Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė. In particular, the following may retain their positions:

  • Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys;
  • Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Kaminski;
  • Minister of Education, Science, and Sports Raminta Popovienė;
  • Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of Economy and Innovation;
  • Minister of Justice Rita Tamašūnienė;
  • Minister of National Defense Robertas Kaunas.

Thus, the new government will combine new and incumbent members of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The former prime minister will take on a new role

The changes will also affect former Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė. She will remain in the government but in a different role. According to the proposed structure of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ruginienė will head the Ministry of Social Protection and Labor.

Decision expected shortly

The main question now is exactly when the president will sign the decree approving the new government. The presidential administration notes that the review of the documents will not take long. If the head of state approves the proposed Cabinet lineup, it must then be ratified by parliament. After that, Lithuania’s new government, led by Mindaugas Sinkevičius, will officially take office. This was reported by LRT.
