Netanyahu says efforts to disarm Hamas in Gaza will continue
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a visit to a military post in the Gaza Strip, said that Israel would continue efforts to disarm Hamas and demilitarize the enclave. He was accompanied on the visit by Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir.
Statements on territorial control
As the Jerusalem Post reports, Netanyahu spoke from the so-called Yellow Line and said that Israeli forces control the area and will remain there. According to him, the goal of the actions is to disarm Hamas and demilitarize the Gaza Strip.
The prime minister also said that Israel controls 60% of the enclave's territory. He linked further actions to the elimination of militants who, he said, pose a threat to Israel. Netanyahu added that the Gaza Strip “will no longer pose a threat to Israel” and that this goal, in his view, has already largely been achieved.

Detention of the internal security chief
Netanyahu also said that the head of Hamas's internal security service had recently been detained. According to him, Israel expects to obtain information from him.
In a joint statement by the Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security service released on Tuesday, it was reported that the Hamas internal security chief had been detained during a joint operation. The Jerusalem Post notes that the operation was described as the first detention in a long time of a high-ranking figure deep inside the Gaza Strip. According to the publication, anti-Hamas groups in Gaza were involved in it.
Netanyahu was also accompanied by Major General Yaniv Asor, commander of the Israel Defense Forces Southern Command, and Colonel Elad Tsuri, commander of the 7th Armored Brigade.
