Germany has issued arrest warrants for two Russians in connection with cyberattacks affecting hundreds of millions of people

German law enforcement authorities have identified two Russian citizens suspected of carrying out large-scale cyberattacks and digital extortion.

This was reported by Spiegel.

They are believed to be members of the GandCrab and REvil groups, which were active between 2018 and 2021.

According to the investigation, the suspects may have been key figures—an organizer and a programmer.

At least 130 attacks on companies and institutions, including healthcare facilities, have been recorded in Germany.

Damages in Germany alone are estimated at approximately €35 million, and in total—at hundreds of millions.

The suspects have been placed on an international wanted list.

Investigators identified them through analysis of cryptocurrency transactions and cooperation with international partners.

As a reminder, Iranian hackers breached the personal email of FBI Director Kash Patel and posted correspondence and personal data from 2010–2019 online. The Handala Hack Team claimed responsibility for the attack.

Russian hackers launched a large-scale cyber operation aimed at hijacking user profiles on the popular messaging apps Signal and WhatsApp.
