Germany to cut support for Ukrainians – BILD
Germany plans to change the support system for Ukrainians who arrived after 1 April 2025, reclassifying them as asylum seekers.
This move is expected to reduce their financial assistance, according to a report by BILD.
Currently, Ukrainian refugees in Germany receive €563 per month, but under the planned changes, this will be reduced to approximately €441. The reform was agreed upon by the CDU/CSU and SPD coalition parties in Berlin.
Coalition representatives said the measure represents a compromise between regional demands and the federal government; an earlier proposal would have retroactively cut payments.
There are currently about 1.1 million Ukrainians living in Germany, most of whom are not officially employed. The government hopes the new payment system will encourage refugees to actively seek work.
At the same time, young Ukrainians will still be allowed to enter Germany without restrictions.
