Germany is considering purchasing Australian Ghost Bat stealth drones — The Australian

Germany is officially exploring the possibility of acquiring the Australian MQ-28A Ghost Bat unmanned combat aerial vehicle.

This was reported by The Australian.

During his visit to Australia on March 27, 2026, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed that Berlin could become the first foreign buyer of this latest development.

The Ghost Bat, developed by Boeing Australia, belongs to the “loyal wingman” class—autonomous aircraft that operate in close coordination with piloted fighter jets, such as the Eurofighter Typhoon or the F-35.

The drone is capable of carrying out high-risk missions, providing cover for the pilot, conducting reconnaissance, or striking targets.

During a visit to Amberley Air Base, Boris Pistorius called on Australian partners to show “courage and determination” in building up their defense capabilities.

He noted that for modern warfare, Germany needs a balance between expensive high-tech systems and cheaper mass-produced drones.

“We are comparing options; we have experts, we have our companies, and we will make a decision in due course,” the minister said, commenting on the choice of platform for the Bundeswehr.

Ghost Bat is currently a “serious contender” in the German tender, the results of which are expected in the near future.

As a reminder, Germany has called for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.

Germany will also spend 650 billion euros on defense by 2030.
