Nwuche calls Wike’s tenure the best in Rivers history — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chibudom Nwuche highly praised Nyesom Wike’s work as governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023. Nwuche said that infrastructure development during Wike’s tenure was unprecedented, and that more than 1,000 kilometres of roads were completed and commissioned in the state during that period, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Nwuche, who chairs the board of the South-South Development Commission, spoke during a visit by Ahoada East Local Government Council Chairman Solomon Ochoma to Ochigba community on September 12. At the event, the former lawmaker was represented by Kingdom Ajugo and Vision Paul. Earlier, Nwuche supported Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, calling it a political masterstroke.
Road projects
Among the projects mentioned by Nwuche were the expansion of the 16.06-kilometre Saakpenwa–Bori highway, which passes through Tai, Khana and Gokana areas, the rehabilitation of the 11.53-kilometre Eleme–Afam road in Oyigbo, and the completion of the Nkoro–Opobo section of the Ogoni–Opobo–Andoni road. According to him, completion of the latter project provided road access to the historic Opobo Kingdom.

Nwuche also mentioned the expansion of the Ahoada–Omoku road with street lighting, the construction of ten interchanges in Port Harcourt and the Obio/Akpor area, and the launch of the 12.5-kilometre Trans-Kalabari road project. He claimed that these projects improved links between rural communities and cities and contributed to local economic activity.
Facilities in Ekpeye
Separately, Nwuche highlighted projects in the Ekpeye Kingdom, including the Edeoha–Ikata–Ochigba, Ahoada–Odiemerenyi–Ihugbogho–Odieke, and Ahoada–Ekpena roads. He also included the bridge over the Orashi River, the Rivers State University campus in Ahoada, the Ahoada regional hospital, and the primary healthcare centre in Odioku.
According to Nwuche, the Edeoha–Ikata–Ochigba road was initially awarded under the administration of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, but the project was later left unfinished. He said the road was completed and inaugurated in February 2018.
