Orbán compared his opposition to Ukraine and Brussels to the fall of communism

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán issued a sharp statement, drawing parallels between the current standoff with the leadership of the European Union and Ukraine and the Hungarian people’s struggle against the communist regime.

The Hungarian leader assured that Budapest has no intention of backing down from its current political stance.

On his official page on the X network, Orbán posted a video message in which he emphasized the steadfastness of his position.

He stressed that Hungary has a rich history of fighting for sovereignty and will not allow external forces to dictate their terms.

“We overthrew communism. We fought for our freedom. We built a Christian, family-oriented, and patriotic state. And now Zelenskyy and the folks in Brussels think we’ll back down? Don’t make me laugh,” Viktor Orbán stated in his post.

This statement came against the backdrop of the critically important parliamentary elections in Hungary, scheduled for April 2026.

Political analysts note that Orbán is deliberately constructing an image of the enemy in the form of Kyiv and Brussels, attempting to mobilize his conservative electorate.

The escalation of Budapest’s rhetoric comes amid reports that the Kremlin is actively assisting the Hungarian prime minister.

In particular, according to intelligence reports, Russian special services even offered to stage an assassination attempt on Orbán to boost his approval ratings ahead of the vote.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already lodged a protest over yet another unfriendly move by the Hungarian government.

Official Kyiv has warned Budapest that such anti-Ukrainian propaganda and manipulation of historical facts pose a threat to regional security.

As a reminder, Viktor Orbán refused to call the strikes on Iran the start of a war.

Orbán also responded to Zelenskyy following his remarks about “growing a belly.”
