Educators in Barcelona blocked the entrance to the Sagrada Família during a strike — El País
In Barcelona, education workers blocked access to the world-famous Sagrada Família as part of a strike, protesting against problems in Catalonia’s education system.
This was reported by El País.
On Monday, teachers in Catalonia continued their strike amid disputes over the regional budget and fruitless negotiations between unions and the government.
This time, the protesters refrained from blocking entry points into the city and instead blocked access to one of Barcelona’s main tourist attractions.
Protesters formed a “human chain,” passing desks and chairs from the nearest school to the cathedral, setting up an impromptu open-air classroom.
The protest organizers stated that Barcelona should invest less in tourism and more in ensuring fundamental rights, particularly the right to education.
In recent weeks, similar strikes by educators have also taken place in Valencia and Madrid. Among the main grievances are overcrowded classrooms, poor conditions in educational institutions, and a shortage of assistants for children with special educational needs.
Employees of the German airline Lufthansa will continue their strike on Thursday and Friday, leading to further widespread flight cancellations.
Starting Monday night, April 13, pilots from Germany’s largest airlines, including Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Eurowings, launched another wave of protests.
