Shakira Wins Tax Dispute With Spanish Authorities Over €55 Million — The Guardian
A Spanish court has ordered the tax authorities to refund singer Shakira more than 55 million euros, ruling that the fines imposed in connection with a 2011 tax dispute were unlawful.
This was reported by The Guardian.
Spain’s National Court upheld the artist’s appeal against a decision made five years ago, when the tax agency claimed that Shakira had not paid the required taxes in the country.
The court concluded that the tax agency failed to prove that the singer spent more than 183 days in Spain in 2011 and was therefore not required to pay personal income tax there.
In addition to refunding the fines, the tax agency was ordered to pay Shakira interest and reimburse her for legal costs.
However, this ruling applies only to the 2011 tax case and may still be appealed to the Spanish Supreme Court.
In 2023, Shakira had already settled another tax case related to allegations of failing to pay 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
Colombian singer Shakira held a massive concert on Copacabana Beach in Brazil, attended by about two million people.
Singer Shakira, who divorced her husband Gerard Piqué in the summer of 2022 after 11 years of marriage, gave her fans a scare. The star recorded a playful video in which many saw a creepy hint.
