Pakistan sends 100 tonnes of aid to Nepal after devastating floods — Dawn
Pakistan has sent 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal to deal with the aftermath of deadly floods and landslides. The cargo was delivered by charter flight from Islamabad to Kathmandu, Dawn reports.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the aid was coordinated by the National Disaster Management Authority. The shipment included tents, blankets, mats, hygiene kits and medicines for affected communities.

The ceremony to dispatch the humanitarian cargo took place at Islamabad airport. It was attended by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Nepal’s Ambassador Rita Dhital, as well as officials from Pakistan’s foreign ministry and disaster management authority.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the aid was an expression of solidarity with the government and people of Nepal. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the country was ready to provide Nepal with all possible support.

Search operation continues
As a result of a glacial and mountain collapse near the China-Nepal border, according to the data cited in the report, at least 1,384 people died in the two countries, while more than 5,500 remain missing. In Nepal, rescuers recovered 1,341 bodies, and about 4,996 people are still being sought.
On September 6, the search and rescue operation in Nepal continued for the twelfth day. Rescuers worked in difficult weather conditions, hard-to-reach terrain and amid a lack of communications. Over two days, they managed to find four people alive, three of them in hydroelectric power plant tunnels.
Flows of icy water and debris destroyed roads, bridges and other infrastructure in mountainous areas on August 26. At least 12 hydropower projects were affected by the disaster. The UN launched an appeal for $50 million to assist more than 84,000 affected people.
