Pope Leo XIV celebrates his 71st birthday

Pope Leo XIV celebrates his 71st birthday on September 14. On this occasion, the Vatican is receiving birthday greetings from various countries around the world.

The pontiff is spending his birthday carrying out his usual duties—meeting with people and holding audiences. He will also take part in the opening of an exhibition at the Vatican Apostolic Library.

Leo XIV was born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago. Among the key themes of his pontificate are peace, unity, dialogue, hope, and the protection of human dignity. During his first year on the papal throne, he mentioned peace and reconciliation more than 400 times in his speeches.

Interestingly, 25 years ago, also on September 14, Robert Francis Prevost was elected Superior General of the Order of Saint Augustine.

During his pontificate, Leo XIV became the first pope to visit Monaco and Algeria. During his visit to Spain, he also became the first pope to address the country’s parliament.

On January 6, the Pope concluded the Jubilee Year 2025 by closing the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. He also finalized the apostolic exhortation “Dilexi te,” dedicated to love for the poor and initiated by Pope Francis.

Leo XIV devoted special attention to artificial intelligence in his first encyclical, “Magnifica humanitas,” emphasizing that technology must remain at the service of human dignity.
