In his Easter message, the Pope mentioned the Ukrainian people
On Sunday, April 12, Pope Leo XIV issued a passionate appeal to the international community to keep the war in Ukraine in the spotlight.
While greeting Eastern Rite Christians on the joyous feast of Easter, the pontiff emphasized the importance of constant prayer and aid for the suffering Ukrainian people.
The Holy Father’s address came after the recitation of the traditional “Queen of Heaven” prayer at the Vatican.
The Pope reminded the faithful that today many Eastern Churches celebrate Easter according to the Julian calendar, and expressed solidarity with those who are celebrating the holiday amid hostilities.
“To all these communities, I send my most sincere wishes for peace in the communion of faith in the Risen Lord. I accompany them with even more fervent prayer for those suffering from the war, and especially for the dear Ukrainian people. May the light of Christ bring comfort to suffering hearts and strengthen the hope for peace. May the international community’s attention to the tragedy of this war never fade!” the pontiff proclaimed.
Pope Leo XIV paid special attention to the dramatic situation in Lebanon, whose people are enduring days of deep suffering and fear.
The Pope emphasized that protecting civilians from the brutal consequences of armed conflicts is not only a norm of international law but also a fundamental moral obligation.
The pontiff called on all warring parties to immediately cease fire and begin seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflicts.
He stressed that the principle of humanity must be embedded in the consciousness of every person, regardless of their political or religious views.
