Bandera Park: Landmarks in Warsaw Have Been Renamed En Masse on Google Maps
On the evening of July 5, users noticed that dozens of well-known locations in Warsaw had temporarily been given offensive and absurd names on Google Maps.
Among them were “Bandera Park,” “Third Reich Uprising Museum,” and other provocative renamings. In particular, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was briefly renamed “Tomb of the Famous SS Soldier,” and the Presidential Palace became “Palace of Soccer Hooligans.”
It is likely that unknown individuals exploited a glitch in the Google Maps moderation system. After some time, all names were restored to their official versions.
