The Dutch Parliament has suspended its work due to a civil servants' strike
On April 14, the lower house of the Dutch parliament will suspend its work due to a nationwide strike by civil servants.
According to NU.nl, both plenary sessions and committee work will be canceled due to a shortage of staff.
"The civil servants' strike announced for Tuesday will also affect the work of the House of Representatives. Due to a shortage of staff, plenary sessions and committee work will be suspended," the statement reads.
It is noted that this week’s weekly question hour will not take place at all, and voting will be postponed until Wednesday. The weekly meeting will also be postponed until Wednesday.
The agenda for April 14 included a large number of items, but due to the strike, discussion of all items is being postponed. New dates will be set for the canceled debates and sessions.
It is reported that the strike was announced following the collapse of negotiations between the government and trade unions regarding a new collective agreement for civil servants, which also covers parliamentary staff. The Cabinet of Ministers insists on continuing the wage indexation freeze and no inflation compensation this year, while civil servants are demanding higher wages.
