Yashar party in Israel proposes raising pay for conscripts — Jerusalem Post

In Israel, the Yashar party led by Gadi Eisenkot has presented an election plan to support young people. According to the party, the program provides for a 15% pay increase for all compulsory-service soldiers and a 50% increase for combat-unit soldiers in their third year of service.

The plan was presented on September 28 ahead of elections scheduled for October 27. Yashar, which is leading in the polls, is part of an opposition bloc seeking to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Rent and employment

The program covers the cost of living, housing and rent, military service, higher education, employment, and young people’s financial independence. The party also proposes creating assistance and protection mechanisms for housing tenants.

In education, Yashar wants to adapt academic training to labor market needs. To achieve this, it proposes modular programs, paid internships, and micro-credentials. A ministerial committee on youth affairs is to coordinate state youth policy.

Financial independence

The party also stated its intention to create a system of practical consultations for young people. It is intended to help them understand payslips, pensions, workplace rights, loans, and taxation.

Separately, Yashar proposes introducing a personal “starter account” as a resource containing information on funds and benefits available to young people. Eisenkot said that the state must support those who left their studies, jobs, and families for national service, and that people who serve, work, and contribute to the country should receive more opportunities in matters of wages, housing, education, transport, and starting a family.
