Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir transferred to hospital in Khartoum — Asharq Al-Awsat
Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was transferred from the northern city of Merowe to a hospital in Khartoum for further treatment and medical examinations. His lawyer, Mohamed al-Hassan al-Amin, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the 80-year-old al-Bashir was taken to the capital around two weeks ago for routine check-ups.
Health condition and possible treatment abroad
According to the lawyer, the former president's health condition has not changed. At the same time, he has developed symptoms of unknown origin that may require examinations abroad using modern medical equipment. Al-Amin did not specify the nature of these symptoms but said that al-Bashir has recurring problems with low blood pressure and infections.
The lawyer stressed that there is no official decision allowing al-Bashir to leave Sudan. At the same time, according to him, some officials did not object to such a move. A request for the possibility of treatment abroad was submitted more than a year ago, but it has still not been implemented.

Cases against the former president
The International Criminal Court accuses al-Bashir of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the Darfur region during his rule. He was also convicted in Sudan in a case involving corruption and illegal financing; before the war began in April 2023, he was involved in other court proceedings as well.
Earlier, Sudanese media reported a significant deterioration in al-Bashir's health. However, the publication's high-level sources rejected these reports, stating that the transfer to Khartoum may be linked to preparations for his departure abroad. These sources also said that Islamists from the National Congress Party, which was removed from power, had attempted to arrange his relocation. According to them, al-Bashir had previously been offered a move to Eritrea, but he refused.
