Trump's Party Calls for Ending the War with Iran by September – Politico

Internal pressure is mounting within the U.S. Republican Party on President Donald Trump to urgently conclude the military campaign in Iran before Labor Day, which falls on the first Monday in September.

Party leaders, strategists, and congressional candidates view this date as a critical deadline, as September marks the start of the active campaign season ahead of the midterm elections. Prolonged hostilities, rising casualties among U.S. troops, and a spike in gasoline prices to $5 a gallon pose enormous electoral risks for Republicans.

Discontent within the party has already led to a political split, resulting in a group of Republican lawmakers joining Democrats to vote for restrictions on the president’s military powers. At the same time, Donald Trump himself is showing irritation over Tehran’s intransigence, and his public statements range from threats of massive strikes to plans to seize Iran’s main oil hub—the island of Kharg. The commander-in-chief’s chaotic actions are drawing sharp criticism even among conservatives; notably, media personality Tucker Carlson called Trump a poor diplomat, and opinion polls show extremely low support for this war among American citizens.

The White House currently estimates the likelihood of a diplomatic settlement and the signing of a preliminary peace agreement with Iran at 80–85%. Earlier, Trump publicly announced that the official document would be signed on Sunday, June 14, which would fully reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz to international shipping and ensure the export of highly enriched uranium. Despite this, deep skepticism persists within party circles, as the White House chief’s previous high-profile statements about a truce have not led to an actual ceasefire in the Middle East.

This is reported by the influential American publication Politico.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially denied U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that a bilateral memorandum of understanding would be signed on Sunday, June 14.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States and Iran could sign a peace agreement as early as Sunday, June 14. According to the American leader, once the agreements take effect, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical energy routes—will be fully restored.

Iran has strengthened the protection of its highly enriched uranium stockpiles by setting up booby traps and blocking access to underground storage facilities. According to sources, in recent weeks Tehran has been deliberately destroying the entrances to underground tunnels, further fortifying storage facilities, and making access to potential uranium reserves more difficult.

The IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution requiring Iran to immediately provide information on its uranium stockpiles. The decision marks another step in international pressure on Tehran amid the escalating situation surrounding its nuclear program.
