Pashinyan told Putin that Armenia has an abundance of democracy and no political prisoners
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a meeting with Russian dictator Putin, spoke of the high level of political freedoms in his country, specifically noting the absence of individuals convicted for political activities.
The statement by the head of the Armenian government is reported by News.am.
The head of the Armenian government emphasized that the republic ensures complete freedom of social media and the regular holding of municipal elections. According to Pashinyan, some citizens even consider this level of democracy excessive, but for the government, this issue is a matter of principle.
The prime minister paid special attention to the upcoming parliamentary elections, noting that only individuals with an Armenian passport have the right to run for parliament or for the position of head of government. He emphasized that, according to the Armenian constitution, people with Russian passports cannot participate in elections as candidates. Pashinyan added that despite complaints from some citizens about overly intense political activity, the country is adhering to its chosen course of openness and the absence of restrictions in the media space.
