The Pentagon has added more than 30 Russian universities to its list of institutions that pose a threat to U.S. national security
The U.S. Department of Defense has updated its list of foreign institutions whose activities are considered to pose risks to the country’s national security. The new list includes 31 Russian higher education institutions and research centers.
The list, updated based on 2025 data, was released on July 23. In total, it includes 130 higher education institutions and research organizations from Russia, China, and Iran.
The Pentagon noted that these institutions engage in activities that increase the risk of misappropriation of research and development results funded by the U.S. government. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, this could facilitate interference by rival states and pose a direct threat to national security and scientific integrity.
The updated list is advisory in nature and serves as a guideline for U.S. institutions and organizations on whom to avoid collaborating with.
In total, the list includes about 80 Chinese institutions, 31 Russian ones, and a number of organizations from Iran.

As a reminder, the British government has temporarily recalled staff from its embassy in Iran due to the deteriorating security situation in the region. Officials in London stated that the decision was made after receiving new information regarding rising tensions.
