Peter Magyar found documents that the Orbán government had not yet managed to destroy
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced that compromising materials had been discovered in the building of the former Ministry of Construction and Transport.
The Hungarian head of government reported this on social media.
The discovery consists of dozens of bags containing shredded documents and campaign materials from the Fidesz party of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The sensational discovery was made during an inspection of the premises, which were previously headed by Orbán’s close ally, János Lázár.
The new prime minister personally documented at least 15–20 bags of shredded paper documents hidden in the basement.
“Look what we found in the basement of János Lázár’s former ministry—bags of shredded documents, Fidesz leaflets, and campaign materials,” Péter Magyar commented in his video.
According to the current prime minister, officials from the previous regime simply did not have time to quickly remove the documents before the transfer of power, so they hastily tried to destroy them.
In addition to the destroyed archives, a significant amount of party campaign material was found in the basement, including posters and flyers with the slogan “Fidesz is a reliable choice,” as well as national flags used at pro-government rallies.
The head of government emphasized that storing party campaign materials in state institutions is a serious offense.
