One person remains in hospital after ferry disaster near Kyrenia in Cyprus
In Cyprus, one person remains in hospital after a passenger ferry sank off the coast of Kyrenia. As Cyprus Mail reports, 131 of the 132 injured people who were hospitalized after the disaster have already been discharged.
Deaths and missing persons
Turkish Cypriot “prime minister” Ünal Üstel said that the condition of the patient who remains hospitalized is improving rapidly. According to him, there are no more patients in intensive care units.
As of Saturday evening, the deaths of 13 people as a result of the disaster had been confirmed. Another 15 people are considered missing. According to Üstel, search and rescue operations to find them are continuing around the clock.

Assistance to those affected
After the survivors were brought ashore, all 239 people were transported to hospitals in the north of the island. Four of them were initially hospitalized in intensive care units.
Üstel reported that 21 ambulances and 63 personnel were dispatched to the port. First aid at the scene was provided by 25 doctors and 30 nurses, while state, university, military and private hospitals were put on alert. According to his data, 139 doctors and around 200 nurses and other medical workers were involved in responding to the disaster.
Relatives of some of the missing people were brought from the new Kyrenia port to provide DNA samples. They are planned to be used together with visual identification and other methods to establish the identities of the recovered remains.
