After a four-year hiatus, packages from the U.S. have begun arriving in Russia again
Mail service between Russia and the United States has resumed after being suspended following the outbreak of full-scale war against Ukraine. The first batch of mail from the United States has already arrived in Russia.
According to Russian media reports, postal operators in both countries resumed the import of international mail at the end of May. Prior to 2022, over 50 tons of parcels were delivered from the U.S. to Russia each month.
The vast majority of these shipments consisted of e-commerce goods—clothing, footwear, electronics, and dietary supplements.
According to Russian data, the U.S. was the largest destination for export mail shipments in 2024–2025. The American market accounted for about 20% of all Russian exports via postal services.
At the end of 2025, Russian Post also resumed accepting shipments to the U.S. in the “Gift,” “Documents,” and “Commercial Sample” categories.
Mail exchange between the countries was suspended in March 2022 after the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) stopped accepting international shipments to Russia due to sanctions and logistical restrictions imposed following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As a reminder, the European Union is considering adding about 20 additional tankers from Russia’s shadow fleet to the upcoming 21st package of restrictive measures aimed at reducing Moscow’s oil revenues. The new sanctions are also planned to extend to vessels transporting liquefied natural gas to prevent the Kremlin from creating a similar shadow fleet for LNG.
Ukraine has introduced a new package of sanctions against Russian commanders who directed missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, as well as against vessels providing military logistics for Russia.
