The President of Romania has appointed a new prime minister following a month of political crisis
Romanian President Nicușor Dan has appointed Eugen Tomac, a Member of the European Parliament and his advisor, as the country’s new prime minister.
The appointment came nearly a month after the resignation of the previous head of government, Ilie Bolojan. According to the president, negotiations between the coalition parties were marred by disputes, which prevented the formation of a new governing alliance.
Niculescu Dan stated that he had chosen a candidate who is not affiliated with any parliamentary parties but has sufficient political experience to seek compromises between various political forces.
The newly appointed Prime Minister Eugen Tomac announced that he plans to form a technocratic government composed of experts rather than politicians.
Under Romanian law, Tomac has 10 days to form the Cabinet and secure a vote of confidence from Parliament.
