Orbán said that the EU could cease to exist in 25 years if the Union does not change
Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the European Union may cease to exist in its current form if it does not carry out sweeping reforms.
He made these remarks during a speech at the Tushvanosh summer camp in Romania. According to Orbán, the EU may not exist in 25 years because, in his view, the current model of the union is unsustainable. He noted that international organizations that are unable to adapt to new conditions may disappear or undergo radical changes.
“Those who are unable to adapt will disappear. And the European Union, in my view, is currently unable to adapt,” Orban stated.
At the same time, the politician emphasized that he does not want the EU to disappear, but rather advocates for its reform, in which Hungary, he said, should play an important role.
Orbán also stated that, in his opinion, the position of President of the European Commission should not be filled but rather abolished. He called for limiting the powers of the European Commission and returning more influence to EU member states.
The former Hungarian prime minister attributed the Union’s problems to 2015, when, he said, the European Commission under the leadership of Jean-Claude Juncker began to play not only a coordinating but also a political role.

Hungarian Prosecutor General Gábor Balint Nád has submitted his resignation. He had assumed the position under the previous administration, and the new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, had demanded his dismissal.
