South Korea imports Russian oil for the first time since the war began — Reuters

South Korea has confirmed the import of 27,000 tons of Russian ligroin, which is expected to arrive in the near future.

This was reported by Reuters.

The Ministry of Industry did not disclose where exactly the shipment will be delivered or which companies will receive it.

This is the first instance of Russian petroleum products being imported since the start of the war in the Middle East.

Ligroin is used as a raw material in the petrochemical industry, particularly in the production of plastics.

According to local media, the product may be received by a major chemical company, and the shipment will be sent to one of the country’s key petrochemical complexes.

The government notes that the import became possible following a temporary easing of U.S. sanctions.

South Korea is heavily dependent on oil imports—about 77% of its supplies come from the Middle East.
