Near Athens, helicopters and firefighters are battling a forest fire
Firefighters and helicopters battled a rapidly spreading wildfire near Porto Germeno, west of Athens, on Sunday. Strong winds fanned the flames as they spread through dry forest, with thick smoke and flames rising above the area, according to Euronews.
Video footage shows ground firefighting crews extinguishing the blaze, while helicopters repeatedly dropped water on the fire. Strong winds hampered the work of the aircraft: crews had to perform difficult maneuvers over the fire-ravaged slopes.

The fire, which began on Friday, has engulfed a significant area of forest. As a result, residents of nearby coastal towns have been evacuated.
Hundreds of firefighters and more than 20 aircraft have been deployed to extinguish the blaze. Greece continues to face a serious emergency situation due to the wildfires.
