Nigerian police deny officers were killed in checkpoint crash
Police in Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State said that no law enforcement officer was killed or injured in a road accident at a checkpoint in the Ibesikpo-Asutan Local Government Area. The crash occurred on Wednesday in Ikot-Obio-Odongo on the Aka-Nung-Udoh road.
Refuting social media reports
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the police clarification came after a video circulated on social media claiming that police officers had died in the crash. The footage shows a silver vehicle with a severely damaged hood and people gathered near the accident site close to the Nung-Udoh roundabout.
State police spokesperson Timfon John said that information about police officers being killed or injured was untrue. Law enforcement officers urged residents not to spread unverified reports that could cause panic.

Police version
According to police, a vehicle inspection operation was being conducted at the checkpoint at about 13:40. A minivan driven by a man named Anietie was stopped for inspection. Police claim that a Lexus vehicle travelling behind at high speed crashed into the stationary minivan.
Both vehicles were taken to a police station for investigation and documentation.
