Poland is ready to help Hungary achieve energy independence from Russia
Warsaw has declared its readiness to support Budapest in diversifying energy supplies and developing autonomous infrastructure in the region.
This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart Péter Magyar, according to Ukrinform.
Tusk emphasized that Poland managed to completely eliminate its 90% dependence on Russian oil and gas in a short period of time, as a single state’s monopoly renders sovereignty illusory. In addition to energy security, the heads of government discussed Ukraine’s integration into the EU, emphasizing that they support this process but will insist on strict adherence to all standard European rules in order to protect their own economic interests.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar began his first official foreign visit on May 19 after taking office, choosing Poland as his destination.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the Polish government would seek to influence the Pentagon’s decision regarding the possible withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.
