Poland will not build a highway to Lviv using its own funds
Polish Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak denied reports that the Polish government allegedly plans to finance the construction of a highway to Lviv using state budget funds. He emphasized that no such projects exist and that they are not being considered at the government level.
According to the minister, he knows nothing about any road construction in Ukraine funded by the Polish state budget.
“I am not aware of any road construction in Ukraine using Polish funds from the state budget, including a road to Lviv,” Klimczak said.
He also emphasized that Polish government agencies do not engage in infrastructure construction outside of Poland, and that the national road service implements projects exclusively within the country.
At the same time, the minister clarified that Polish companies may participate in future infrastructure projects in Ukraine, but only if they are funded from the Ukrainian budget or international funds.
“But this does not mean that Poland will build roads in Ukraine using its own funds, budget funds, or any other funds received by Poland,” the Polish minister emphasized.
Klimczak added that the issue of potential contracts for Polish businesses could be discussed during the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which will take place on June 25–26 in Gdańsk.
Thus, the Polish side has officially denied reports of funding for a road to Lviv but has left open the possibility of business participation in the reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructure on a commercial basis.
As a reminder, Romania is building a new highway to the border with Ukraine, which will provide Ukraine with additional access to Romanian ports, bypassing Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.
