Poland to restrict low-altitude flights in eastern regions
Poland will introduce temporary restrictions on low-altitude flights in the eastern part of the country to strengthen air defense capabilities amid the war in Ukraine. The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced the creation of a temporary restricted zone in the airspace from the ground surface to an altitude of about 3 kilometers.
Duration of the restrictions
The restrictions will be in effect from September 10 to December 9. They will not apply to passenger aircraft operating at higher altitudes. The command said the measure was introduced to ensure the security of Polish airspace amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
As Anadolu Agency reports, citing TVP World, the new zone is expected to replace the previous restrictions. Flights in this zone are also expected to be prohibited at night, according to the broadcaster. Polish law provides that temporary restrictions may remain in force for up to three months.

Strengthening airspace protection
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also announced an expansion of the country’s airspace protection. According to him, following recent provocations and acts of aggression by Russia as an aggressor state, Poland is increasing the activity of its air force, including F-16 aircraft and helicopters.
The minister noted that in recent weeks, provocations by Russia had taken various forms and posed a threat in places previously considered safe. He added that Poland is constantly monitoring the situation on its eastern border and strengthening rapid-response systems to threats across the country.
