Poland sent half of the pilgrims home on a special flight following a fatal traffic accident in Hungary

On August 18, approximately half of the Polish pilgrims who were injured in a fatal traffic accident in Hungary were returned to Poland on a special government flight. The remaining passengers of the bus involved in the accident remain in Hungary.

The special government flight departed from Debrecen, Hungary, and landed at Rzeszów Airport on the evening of August 17, bringing back 21 victims from Hungary who could be transported without undue risk. One other victim decided to return to Poland separately with his family.

Five people were taken directly from the plane to hospitals, while 16 others did not require hospitalization.

Another 18 victims remain in Hungary for now. The condition of two patients is described as critical, according to RMF24.

As a reminder, Poland will step up bus inspections following a fatal accident in Hungary.

In Hungary, on the night of August 16, a tourist bus with Polish license plates veered off the M3 highway into a ditch and overturned.
